Peru vs Venezuela 19.06.2015

Peru vs. Venezuela / Copa America – The two national teams were supposed to be outsiders being in the same group with Brazil and Columbia, but after the first round it turned out that Peru and Venezuela can parry to two far more famous teams. Venezuela showed that most graphically when it defeated favoured Columbia, while Peru lost at the end to Brazil, but in reality they were simply unlucky. Having three points makes playing new matches much easier to Venezuela but they are aware that if they win they will qualify for the knock-out phase, while Peru must at least not lose in order to still have some chances. It must be not forgotten that this is a match between two semi-finalists from previous Copa America who later played for the third place and that time Peru won by 4-1. They played a friendly at the beginning of the year which Venezuela won by 1-0. Begins: 19.06.2015 – 01:30 CET

Peru

The Peruvians were defeated in previous round but they will be certainly sorry for a long time about that match against favoured Brazil. They had one point in their pocked and then have naively received goal in the last minute and stayed without anything. The only thing they got from that match is a confirmation that can parry even on equal footing even to best teams and have right to hope that can make a similar success like four years ago when they won the third place.

Coach Gareca took the helm of the national team in February and they never won in three matches they played under his command, although they drew with Mexico in a friendly. Gareca had debuted with a defeat by Venezuela, which can be an additional motive to win for the first time. They have brought to Chile all the best players, including veterans Guerrero, Pizarro, Farfan and Vargas but they have new stars too like Zambrano and Carrillo, who surprisingly stayed on the bench against Brazil. He could now play from the first minute and even the formation could be different compared to one that was used against Brazil.

Probable lineups Peru: Gallese – Advincula, Ascues, Zambrano, Yotun – Ballon, Lobaton – Farfan, Vargas, Carrillo – Guerrero

Venezuela

Latest test matches that Venezuela played suggested that this national team could make a surprise at the Copa America, although we should exclude from that the unexpected defeat by Jamaica. Venezuela won Honduras twice and Peru once, which was the latest test before the Copa America, where they made a sensation in the first round. They won Columbia who was regarded as one of the biggest favourites, which was a giant step toward the quarter-finals. They need to confirm their good form right in this match, where it is much easier to do than in the last round against Brazil.

They won Columbia with their favoured tactics, which is a closed formation and counter-attacks. Right one of them ended with a goal, scored by the biggest star of this national team Zenit Rondon, which was enough for a victory. Besides Rondon, Venezuela doesn’t have other bit stars but it worth mentioning defenders Rosales and Amorebieta, midfielders Rincon and Arango and Rayo Vallecano’s forward Miku, who sat the first match on bench. Given the victory in first round it is hard to expect that will change anything in the team.

Probable lineups Venezuela: Baroja – Rosales, Tunez, Vizcarrondo, Amorebieta – Seijas, Rincon – Guerra, Arango, Vargas – Rondon

Peru – Venezuela PICK

Somewhat surprisingly there are plenty of goals at this competition, but this match is definitely one where we don’t expect many goals. One point is not a bad outcome for either team, however, both will be very cautious and we don’t believe that any team will play to win at all costs.

Pick: under 2.5 goals

Stake: 6/10

Odds: 1.60 at bet365 (down to 1.55 can be played)
